PRESS:
FIRST PEOPLE OF THE KALAHARI PRESS RELEASE
6 October 2005
THE GOVERNMENT IS KILLING THE BUSHMEN OF THE CKGR
The Press Secretary of the President, Jeff Ramsay, is
wrong about why the people of the CKGR tried to return
to their homeland last week. They did not try and
return because Roy Sesana and I asked them, but
because they wanted to go and see their families.
So I say to Jeff Ramsay never to write anything he
gets from the scouts in the CKGR and the officials
about the torture and all the bad things they do to
the Bushmen when he is not there.
Because no one is allowed to go inside the CKGR, and
because the government's story is the only story that
is heard, no one knows what is happening to my people.
Why are people not allowed to go inside? The
truth is that three of my people have been shot. One
of my people has been shot in the jaw, another in the
back of the legs and a seven year old boy has been
shot in the stomach.
The truth is also that the Bushmen in the CKGR are not
allowed to eat or drink, but the scouts, soldiers and
police which are camping on their settlements are
always given food and water to eat and drink. But both
of them are human beings. How cruel is this
government?
The truth is also that Roy and I want to go to Europe
to collect our Alternative Nobel prize, but our travel
documents have been taken. This is because the police
are still investigating some foreigners which
they say were with us when we tried to return to the
CKGR, but this is not the truth. The surprising thing
is that the person who was in charge of the shooting
at my people is a foreigner, Jan Broekhuis, and the
person writing in the newspapers, Jeff Ramsay, is also
a foreigner, as is Kathy Alexander, the person doing
research on CKGR diseases and chasing us.
If the government doesn't want anything to do with
foreigners, why do they allow these three foreigners
to be involved with the CKGR issue? I do challenge and
say that it is not because of the disease which has
been found inside the CKGR, but because they want our
parents to suffer of thirst and hunger and leave our
land. This is why they make torture on us and they
punish us.
I do say to this world now, never to listen or to
agree with the ministers talking about democracy in
this country because there isn't any. If this is
democracy, then it is a cruel and sick democracy.
The government may try and only tell their story, but
whatever they do, we will never stop talking about our
ancestral land.
Now people of Molapo have sneaked outside the Game
Reserve to tell the outside world about the situation
inside the CKGR, whereby old age people are dying of
thirst and hunger and are not allowed to dig for
water and food. They are told they must be punished
with thirst and hunger so that they have to leave the
reserve. So I do prove this to all the outside world
that the reserve is closed not because of disease but
to punish my people so they will suffer and die. The
government is killing the Bushmen of the CKGR.
